How to use the account plan generator
- 01
Set the goal
Choose whether you want to grow, keep, raise rates on or renew the client, and add the start or renewal date.
- 02
Name the owners
Add the account owner and an executive sponsor. The plan assigns each touchpoint to one of them.
- 03
Copy the plan
Copy it as text, Markdown or CSV and put it in your CRM, spreadsheet or Armando.
What is an account plan?
An account plan is a short document that sets the goal for one client relationship and the actions that will achieve it: who to talk to, what to do, who owns each step and by when. In key account management it turns good intentions into scheduled touchpoints.
What belongs in an account plan
Keep it short enough that the team will actually follow it.
- The client’s goals and what success looks like for them.
- Your goal for the account, and one or two measures.
- Key people and the relationship with each.
- Touchpoints with dates, owners and a purpose.
- Risks and what you will do about them.
Four goals, four different plans
A plan to grow an account looks nothing like a plan to renew one. Growth plans start with discovery: what is the client trying to do next? Retention plans start with risk and evidence of value. Pricing plans start with preparation and notice. Renewal plans work backwards from the contract date.
This generator builds a different sequence for each goal, using the touchpoint types account teams actually use: relationship conversations, proof of value and execution check-ins.
Why exact touchpoints matter
Most accounts do not fail because the plan was bad. They fail because the plan was a document nobody opened. Putting a date and an owner on each touchpoint makes the plan visible in the calendar, which is where account work either happens or does not.
How often to review the plan
Check progress weekly at team level and revisit the plan itself every quarter, or when something material changes: a new sponsor, scope change, a risk, a missed commitment or a renewal date moving.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an account plan and a key account plan?
The structure is the same. A key account plan is for your most valuable or strategic clients, so it usually goes deeper on stakeholders, executive sponsorship and multi-year goals. Use this generator for either and add detail where the account warrants it.
How long should an account plan be?
One page is usually enough: goal, people, touchpoints, risks and owners. If the plan is longer than the team will read, it will not be used.
What goals can I plan for?
Grow the account, keep the client, raise rates and renew the contract. Each goal produces a different sequence of touchpoints with different timing.
Can I change the plan after it is generated?
Yes. Copy it and edit it for the client. The generated plan is a strong starting point, not a script.
Is the account plan generator free, and is my data saved?
It is free, needs no account and runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is stored or sent anywhere, so copy the plan before you leave.
