AGENCY ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT · FAQ
The questions behind better client relationships.
Short, practical answers about account management and customer success for B2B agencies. Start here, then use the guides and playbooks to put the answer to work.
What does account management mean for a B2B agency?
It means owning the long-term client relationship: understanding goals and stakeholders, keeping commitments visible, addressing risks, and finding the next useful opportunity. It should connect to delivery rather than sit beside it as a separate sales exercise.
How is customer success different from account management?
Customer success focuses on whether the client gets the outcome they came for. Account management also covers the relationship and commercial plan. In a smaller agency, the same person may do both; what matters is clear ownership and a shared view of the client’s goals.
What makes a great QBR?
Two things matter most: show progress against what the client actually cares about, and agree what happens next. A good QBR ends with decisions, owners, and dates—not just a deck.
The six-part QBR guide ↗What should an agency include in a QBR agenda?
Client priorities, progress and proof, team and capacity, risks and feedback, next-quarter priorities, and owners and dates. Use those six parts to guide a decision-making conversation rather than a slide-by-slide status report.
The six-part QBR guide ↗How often should an agency review the relationship with a client?
A quarterly review is a useful starting point, but the rhythm should fit the engagement. Keep regular delivery updates and relationship conversations between reviews. If priorities or risks change, address them when they change rather than waiting for the calendar.
How can an agency spot a client relationship at risk?
Look for changes in engagement, unclear priorities, repeated missed commitments, unresolved complaints, a departing sponsor, or a gap between delivery and the outcome the client expects. Treat these as reasons for a conversation, not proof that a client will leave.
What belongs in a simple agency account plan?
The client’s goals, key people, evidence of value, open risks, relationship touchpoints, and the next actions with owners and dates. Start with a short document the team keeps current; extra fields are only useful if someone uses them.
Start with a client brief ↓Should account-management time be included in agency pricing?
Plan and cost the relationship work alongside delivery. Make the meeting rhythm and responsibilities clear in the agreed scope. If the client needs substantially more coordination, discuss the scope and commercial impact rather than absorbing it indefinitely.
